KEY VERSES
Psalm 25:1-5
To You, O LORD, I lift up my soul.
O my God, in You I trust, Do not let me be ashamed; Do not let my enemies exult over me.
Indeed, none of those who wait for You will be ashamed; Those who deal treacherously without cause will be ashamed. Make me know Your ways, O LORD; Teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me, For You are the God of my salvation; For You I wait all the day.
OUTLINE
I. As Christians, we should follow David’s example and trust God deeply, to our innermost being, for guidance out of and victory over our troubles, including seeking forgiveness for our part in any situation. (Psalm 5:1,2, 13:4, 25:20, 31:1, 41:11)
II. Those believers who wait upon the Lord’s answers and His works will not be disgraced before the highest court of all, the Supreme Court of heaven, where God and Christ rule. But those who do their own will and their way will be disgraced - for the Lord’s thoughts and works are not the same as ours. (Ps 25:3, 37:9, 119:158; Isa 55:8-9; Eccles 11:5; 1 Cor 2:11)
III. For believers to “get it right” or to make situations work out for the glory of God (which is the only right way), then we must pray for Him to show us His ways. Once we learn His ways through study and the intercession of the Holy Spirit, then we should pray to be able to do God’s will in any situation. The key to getting life right is prayer and daily Bible study. (Ps 25:4, 27:11, 86:11; ex 33:13)
IV. Believers are wise to remember that without God, there is no truth and no salvation for humanity. Without God, we have nothing to look forward to; however, with God, we have everything good to anticipate each day. (Ps 25:5, 25:10, 43:3, 79:9, 40:1)
Trusting God does not come naturally for humanity because of our sinful nature. Usually, our first reaction to a situation is to trust in logic, our physical abilities, and our God-given gifts, rather than trusting the Creator. However, if we are going to trust in a man-made plan, it should be a plan that trusts God with our souls, involves praying and waiting for God’s answer, studying God’s word, and understanding that truth and goodness only come from God.
