KEY VERSE
John 16:32–33 (NASB95)
“Behold, an hour is coming, and has already come, for you to be scattered, each to his own home, and to leave Me alone; and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me.
“These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.”
OUTLINE
I. Jesus cared so much for these men who served with Him that He told the truth about their future, even though their future was not a very pleasant one. (John 16:1-4; 8:19, 55; 15:18–27; 17:25; Acts 3:17; 1 John 3:1)
II. The Holy Spirit is the disciples and our direct connection to the Trinity, and within the Trinity comes everything we need to serve and honor God in our physical, mental, and spiritual life. (John 7:33; 14:7; 16:10, 17, 28)
III. Even in our darkest days, we can be assured that Jesus is coming back to make things right for all those who believe in Him. (Jn 16:19–20, 20:20; Lk 23:27; Mk 16:10 )
IV. Christians can have peace in tribulation that the world can never understand, because our peace is since Jesus has already overcome the world. (Jn 16:33; Rom 8:37; 2 Cor 2:14; 4:7ff; 6:4ff; Rev 3:21; 12:11)
Over the past few weeks, we have discussed the importance of having a plan, Hope, and courage in times of trouble. The plan is to trust Jesus, the Hope is in trusting Jesus, and the courage comes from knowing Jesus has overcome the world and every problem with it. However, the Peace deep in one's soul seems to be the hardest to experience. True Peace comes from knowing that you know, that you truly know Jesus as your Saviour.
